About the Journal
The Recoletos International Journal of Languages and Literature (RIJLL) is an open-access, peer-reviewed, bi-annual international journal of language and literature of the University of San Jose-Recoletos. As it is peer-reviewed, RIJLL employs a double-blind review process. i.e., the reviewers and the authors do not know each other’s identification nor affiliation.
Focus and Scope
Aims
RIJLL aims to provide an avenue for research on literature, linguistics, languages, language use, language education, and critical analysis that stands stringent peer reviews to ensure quality publication. It promotes a research culture as it actively encourages EFL/ESL and literature educators to make research as central to their mission in the academe. Hence, it bridges the link between that mission and RIJLL’s pivotal role in education.
Scope
RIJLL accepts original research in any of these domains:
- literature
- languages
- language learning/acquisition language teaching;
- developments in language use;
- trends and technologies in language education in the 21st century;
- language planning and language policy;
- applied linguistics and sociolinguistics;
- issues on bilingualism/multilingualism;
- course design;
- action research in ESL/EFL classroom;
- critical analysis of a literary genre
Peer Review Process
- The selected manuscripts are sent electronically to two or three reviewers who are experts in the field. They are given the electronic Review Checklist and Critique Form to which the manuscripts are evaluated.
- The reviewers use the said checklist as they scrutinize the submitted manuscripts for the following requirements:

- Originality or nonexistence of duplicate publication;
- Scientific merit and accuracy;
- Quality of writing;
- Adequately detailed methods to allow the reader to judge the scientific merit of the study design and be able to replicate the study if desired;
- Clarity and conciseness of the manuscript, as well as its relevance to RIJLL’s Aims and Scope.
- After the review process, the reviewers recommend decision of either of these:
- Accept with No changes;
- Accept with changes;
- Revise and resubmit;
- Reject
Vis-a-vis the reviewers’ recommendation is the constructive critique.
- Subsequently, the authors shall be informed of the decision re-acceptance or rejection of their manuscripts via email. The reviewers’ comments and critiques are highlighted as a point of reference for the authors. As confidentiality of the review process is paramount, the authors shall not convey the comments in public domain such as the social media.
- If the reviewed manuscripts are accepted but with changes to be done, the authors must carry out all the instructions for revision and submit them within the given time frame. If they are not substantially complied, the editorial board reserves the right not to accept them.
Publication Frequency and Fee
The publication of the RIJLL is bi-annual (February and August). Article submission is completely free. Every article published is free of any processing or publishing fees.
